Task 2: Communicating health and safety
Question 2: Effective communication is
essential to positively influence health and safety culture. Based on the
scenario only, give examples of how communication is used effectively by the
organisation. (Marks -10)
Answer:
Effective
communication plays a very important role in order to implement positive health
and safety culture in the organization. Lots of problem in HSE arise due to bad
communication. As per the government instruction our organization is allowing
the workers to work from home remotely therefore it
is more essential for management
to develop effective communication to influence positive health and
safety culture and ensure safety of all the workers.
The Organization
has implemented some the following methods of communication with employees
effectively on HSE procedures and control measures.
The
procedure and guidance prepared by you on best practice working from
has been distributed to all workers by sharing it in companies’
intranet.
The
company is widely using technology in order to fight from the spread of
virus has introduced video conferencing for business and contacting clients.
The Organization
is really care about the employee’s physical and mental health. So for
the mental well-being of the employees due to remote working from home the
management has asked all the departments to conduct 30 minutes
computer based team meetings on weekly basis.
For
the employees who are hesitant and reluctant to share their concerns for
them one to one private meetings has also been scheduled.
Management
has also developed a forum for raising concerns and complaints for
the employees.
Top
management urgent action on call for a meeting with facility manager, Human
Resource Manager and HSE advisor to discuss safe return to work and advise
to conduct suitable and sufficient risk assessment to prevent the
spread of virus before resuming work form office.
Risk
Assessment of virus spread is performed with the involvement of key persons
in the organization such as HSE advisor, Facility manager and worker representative.
All
the significant findings of risk assessment, site visit and research is shared
with all workers before returning to office and a signed copy of
RA is also displayed on the HSE notice board.
An
email will be sent to all the employees on step by step method of washing hands
and other hygiene procedures and posters on hand sanitizing will
also be displayed in washrooms.
New
hand sanitizing procedures will be written and relayed during remote
computer team meetings and made available for reference on the
company intranet.
Work
Instructions on social distancing, additional distancing measures
will be shared with all and uploaded on company intranet along with
the procedure for wearing PPE while working in enclosed
room.
Looking
at all above examples we can easily conclude that the company have
effective communication which is influencing positive HSE culture
within.
